RE: Gen Use in W-M or Flying J Quick Overnighter?

CCIntrigue wrote:
Recently we stopped at a Flying J. It was really cold, so we turned on our generator so we could cook dinner and start up a space heater. The people next door to us in a TT without a generator very pointedly told us to turn off our generator -- so we did, and then we froze all night
Why wouldn't you run the heat? Country Coach put one in your unit..didn't they?

RE: Electrical for a 96 Alfa Gold

The relay is generally near the motor, you should check the slide switch first, the cheapos that make the units generally install AC rated switches instead of DC rated type, a major mistake that showes up in a year or so, use a jumper wire to simulate the switch action

RE: Diesel Fuel .46 a gal??????????

I conduct business with several restaurants in my area and just recently was asked if I had any interest in their waste fryer oil, seems that it was in demand for a while until the collectors realized how much work and expense was involved with free fuel. It would cost me a bundle to get my rig towed in and I am too fussy about the care of the deisel mover to experiment with fuels, however I eagerly await fresh verifiable information to the contrary.

RE: Md DRIVERS LICENSE

Food for reflection is that laws are not static and can and do change, NY changed 2 years ago and it was not widely published...I believe the federal gov't has ways to influence states into adopting the fed's standards, ie the drinking age was increased from 18 to 21 in most states to ensure their share of federal highway monies.

RE: Arcadia Nat'l Park, ME

I'd wait until June for some greenery and have the tourist traps ready to open, we were there just after labor day this past fall and got lucky with the weather GREAT park, bought the travel CD and took the guided tour via our own toad on our own time schedule, highly recommend it. April seems a bit early could easily snow..

RE: Do I need a passport to enter into Canada for USA

I live on the Canadian border and two weeks ago when going over the pond for dinner a verbal declaration was required to enter Canada and a picture ID to return the the US, this past Saturday a picture ID was requested to enter Canada and on the return trip a picture ID and birth cert was requested, however the BC will only be enforced at the end of the month..looking forward it will be prudent to get the passport, just another PIA..wonder what all the terrorists used to fly into this country?passports ??

RE: What type of Glue is this ?

Took a Monaco for a test ride, probably about a 96 or so, the only thing between the motor and the bed was a single layer of plywood which didn't seem upscale to me, the CC I bought had a lead insulation blanket for fire protection and sound deadener, I would anticipate that the foam insulation on the Luxor is to serve the same purpose and in reality is more for sound control. There are a multitude of adhesives on the market to use on the foam, I would test any adhesive on a small area of the foam to see if any deteriation occurs.

RE: Passport Requirements Delayed Again - June 2009 now

Good Grief CB, national security rests on passports for all border crossings! What a simplistic world some of us live in. The esteemed gov't issues social security cards and this would seem to be a start for a national ID card. Just remember the 9-11 terrorists flew into this country legally and went through customs, they have succeeded in reducing our level of freedom in excess of their fondest dreams.

RE: tail lights not working

"put in new fuse and unhooked the trailer lights and coach tail lights still working" From this post it appears that the toad is being trailered, so not a toad at all, if so then the fuse for the tail lights might be a bit on the low side to also handle the trailer lights, The exchange of information rests on a clear understanding of the problem!!!

RE: Running home furnace with generator

Most furnace blower motors are 1/3 HP and up with 1/2 HP the new normally supplied size and have a start up amp draw 3 times the running amp draw. I do this stuff for a living and am not guessing.

RE: Running home furnace with generator

Have had to run my furnace on more than one occasion with my older Honda 2K genset. I backfed the garage outlet circuit with the other circuits off and main disconnected. Kind of a shabby hookup and beneath my abilities as a mechanical contractor..kind of like the old saw about the cobblers kids without shoes..finally installed a manual switch over (purchased from northern hydralics) and now have six circuits that can be ran from the genset. I do set the furnace fan to run continuous to eliminate the high motor draw on startup

Also the thermocouple could be in the low range of its output..enough to keep pilot lit but not enough to open main gas valve..

RE: Suburban furnace wont light

there should absolutely be a separate gas valve for every appliance..and the ignitor could be a hot surface device and therfore silent..On review of the original post I would look further into any more wasp nests obstructing the furnace vent and air intake

RE: Frustrating day at the dealers-battery woes

For what it is worth .02..had a similar problem and gave the dealer a shot at finding the load, the dealer told me that everything was OK, fine, normal, great..I finally traced my problem to the basement freezestat on the hydroheat system..The thermostat was running a circulator pump most of the time with almost no regard for the actual temperature and the hydroheat didn't even have to be on!
